Snow
Haiku - 20 February 2006
By Bill Rogers
In the aftermath of our vicious
1/8th-inch snowstorm, the following Haiku evolved.
|
Snowflakes
gently fall, Bright
red Nandina berries, Nicely
decorated. Just
a bit of snow, Soft,
quiet, simply loverly, Bird
tracks on the rocks. Early
daffodils, Bend
gracefully in the cold, Awaiting
sun’s warmth. Crocus
this cold morn, Tightly
closed, do not open. Gold
buds wait for sun. Just
a flake or two, Tiny
bit of snow on grass, Sirens
wail so loud. Got
spooked, slammed on brakes, Hope
insurance covers this, Followed
too closely. So
little snow falls, There’s
naught to worry about, Cars
go crash, crash, crash. Surprising
Sixty-seven
Accidents, Do
aliens watch ? It’s
sliding, spinning, Shiny,
macho, SUV. No
pity, learn to drive. |
Birds
crowd the feeder. Safflower,
millet, Stoke
their furnaces. So
little falls, melts, Poor
schools open two hours late, Kids
want much more snow. Not
enough, not nearly ’nuf, This
old poof too, loves the snow, Who’s
old, who’s a kid ? Eyes
peek through curtains, Fancying
snowballs, snowmen, It
stops, faces sad. We
hope, meditate, Snow
not cooperating. Come
again, please do ! Peering
through windows, Nature
cooperates not, Snowshoeing a dream. Wee
bit of snow falls, Decorating
rock benches, Winter
so pretty. Not
much, tiny sample, Bird
footprints in the birdbath, Enchanting
picture. It
was here, right here, It
fell, it hesitated. Then
gone, sad quite sad |
Note: Over 200 accidents in the Tidewater area today. When NY City had their 26 + inches of white stuff a week or so ago, they had far fewer accidents.
