ATC Mega-Transect Wildlife Survey

Seeking 4 "teams" (#1 - #4) of ~2 persons each. Each team will be responsible for inserting three (3) cameras at designated locations  about 2 kilometers apart (GPS needed, not provided) one month (on the designated weekend) and recovering them with the subsequent team the following month; so each team requires 2 trips to the trail ~ 4  weeks apart. This return of the "old" team to recover the cameras accomplishes two purposes: it returns the team that inserted each camera to the site to locate the camera (finding the cameras can be a problem); and it permits the "experienced team" to assist the new team with camera location and set-up. It also provides the potential to leave one vehicle at the start location and another at the end location to support "thru hikes versus circuits". Instructions will be provided on the cameras; set-up, downloading/uploading pictures, along with the coordination of locations for each survey site.

Team 1: positions cameras [surveying a section of the AT from around the Fish Hatchery north to around Crabtree Falls] on 18 May [Spring maintenance weekend] and with Team 2 repositions them on 20 or 21 June [cabin maintenance weekend] [Note: will have alumni from last year assist team 1 in positioning the cameras on 18 May.]

Team 2: Recovers cameras with team 1 & positions them [surveying a section of the AT from around Crabtree Falls north to the Tye River ]  on 20 or 21 June [cabin maintenance weekend] and with Team 3  repositions them on 19 or 20 July [Mid-Summer maintenance weekend].

Team 3: Recovers cameras with team 2 & positions them [surveying the southern half of the TATC section of the AT] on 19 or 20 July [Mid- Summer maintenance weekend] .and with Team 4 repositions them on 16 or 17 August.

Team 4: Recovers cameras with team 3 & positions them [surveying the northern half of the TATC section of the AT] on 16 or 17 August and with Team 5 recovers them on 13 or 14 September. Team 5 turns over the cameras to the Charlottesville crew who will complete the remaining survey points on the AT north to I-64.
